Show your architecture in a interesting way

Some designs can be implemented with a server from a hosting company, a few weeks effort and some enthusiasm. If you can launch your product in this way then do so, however most architectures require infrastructure investment, serious programming time and marketing burn. If you find yourself trying to get your designs and architectures out there then you will be well aware that they often need to get other people to support and pay for it.

Its important to realize that this is a process. People start off unaware of your idea, they know your reputation and sometimes if you are really lucky they may even know your work. As the architect you need to take them through the process of commitment. Introduce the idea, take on board their comments, see if your idea still stands.

The architecture diagram is the key tool in explaining your design.

Business people and sponsors who will be looking to invest in your idea need to understand your product, but they often dont know how to read a sequence diagram or component diagram. I find that if you can create a diagram that gets these people to engage it also works when you try to get the engineering team to engage.

This outside the box for how to best show your diagram, one idea is to print it off on a really big piece of paper, blue tack it to the wall and give your audience a marker pen.

Here is an example of a really_big_architecture_picture
